Years ago we drove to northern Colorado to see an iris farm... our timing was off and only a handful of irises were in bloom, but to the left of the farm was a cottage garden with a white picket fence, with these fantastic ruffle-y poppies growing inside and outside the yard. I snapped a few photos (so long ago they were transparencies, not digital!) and held onto them for ages. This past spring I finally had the courage to try and paint them. Hope you are all happy, safe, and warm this winter. .
Saturday, September 29, 2012 is National Coffee Day "...an annual event observed on September 29 for the celebration and enjoyment of the popular beverage coffee. This day is also used to promote fair trade coffee and to raise awareness for the plight of the coffee growers. On this day, many businesses around the world offer free or discounted cups of coffee." Rumor has it you can get a free coffee that day at Krispy Kreme, 7-Eleven and others; do a search to see what's available in your area.
Hope this helps make up for everyone who missed International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19-- aaaarrrgghh! I always miss this one!) September 19 was also National Butterscotch Pudding Day, and the 30th anniversary of the Smiley Emoticon, invented as Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Falman proposed punctuating humorously intended computer messages with a :-) Alast and avast, no use cryin' over spilled puddin'...!

Often I have a name in mind for a painting before I even begin to paint. I'm drawing a blank this time. Anyone think of a catchy, quippy, witty name for these red tulips?
Here's a thought; comment on this post ( I love to hear from you!), and I will send a small poster of one my other artworks to a name chosen at random from all comments, and another to my choice for best title. I'll make a decision on March 31.
