Painting for the Day: "Coffee/Oranges"

"Coffee/Oranges" ....... oil ....... 9"x12"

Sometimes a painting comes out rather differently than the image in my head... I'm not sure what I think of this one, yet.

  1. Let me guess, your favorite color is...orange! (...and blue!)

    I think it's vibrantly delicious!

  2. Lot going on here.... people with ADD like me could be entertained by this for quite a while. ;o)

Hey do you remember who listed a tip about having 5x5 framing coming in a kit?

  3. I think it's great. It's got everything I like -- coffee oranges, turquoise and pattern, plus glass and shadows. Wow.
    Wonderful!

    Take care,

  7. Hi Michelle,
Would you believe...orange is one of my Least favorite colors... at least when it comes to clothes (it's the worst color for my skin tone ever)! Love to paint orange flowers though, and tangerines, etc., Go figure… I am, however, Extremely fond of certain shades of blue, and most colors in vibrant tones. Beige is my anathema.

Sheila, thank you. I think you've pinpointed the problem... TOO busy... oh well.

Thanks, Barbara and Manon, you're too kind!

Doug-- you always know how to make me blush! Composition is one of those elements near and dear to my art-art-heart... Thanks!

Thanks Sandra! Like you, I’m a fan of clear bright colors.

  8. Too busy--I don't think so. The eye knows where to look. I like the repetition of shapes--yep, masterly pretty much describes it.

  18. hi rg! Thanks for your kind comment over in Sandra's "grate" post..
Your work here really zings with those complementary oranges (in both meanings of the word) amidst the blues. It creates an oscillatory effect, and i like the 'circular theme', not only as reflected in the use of complements opposite on the 'color wheel', but also as geometric motifs in the orange, the background blue circles, and, modulated into a spiral form in the cup! best wishes, wr
